ABOUT CO2 SKIN RESURFACING
The process of laser skin resurfacing uses energy to remove the top layer of skin and stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, the latest generation of FDA-approved CO2 lasers, corrects many cosmetic and dermatological skin conditions through a single procedure. Known as the anti-aging breakthrough of the century by professionals all over the world, this procedure combines the effectiveness of the laser skin resurfacing procedure with the safety of CO2 lasers to treat aging, scarred, discolored, and sun-damaged skin safely and effectively offering a reduced recovery period. During a consultation with Irvine, CA cosmetic surgeon Dr. Margueritte Bernett, you can find out more about this innovative procedure.

- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loose skin
- Sun-damaged skin
PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE
Fractional CO2 skin resurfacing is completed as an outpatient procedure and takes approximately 1 – 2 hours to perform depending on the size of the treatment area. A topical anesthesia will likely be applied and allowed to penetrate the skin prior to beginning the procedure. Additional or alternative anesthesia methods may be used depending on a number of factors, but will be discussed before your scheduled procedure. The laser treatment will take approximately 45 minutes to perform, during which controlled energy is used to vaporize the epidermis to allow for shedding and new growth.
WHAT TO EXPECT
As the treatment may cause discomfort, Dr. Bernett may prescribe the a pain reliever to be taken after the procedure. Your face will likely be bandaged after treatment. Because the epidermis will be peeled away, your skin may appear red for several weeks. As it heals, crusting may be present. Dr. Bernett will offer very specific advice on how to properly care for your healing skin, it is very important to follow her instructions to prevent any scarring. You will be able to return home immediately following treatment but should avoid vigorous activity for a couple of days while your skin heals.
