OVERVIEW
Lines and wrinkles in the upper third of the face, such as the forehead and around the eyes, can be effectively dealt with by Dysport injections. Another injectable medication, Dysport is similar to BOTOX where it improves the look of moderate to severe frown lines on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes. It works by temporarily halting the facial muscles responsible for wrinkles. Irvine cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Marguerite Bernett, likes the filler because it produces natural-looking results without an overdone or frozen look. Results typically last up to 4 months.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Dysport is administered during an in-office appointment that generally lasts about 30 minutes to an hour. The medication is injected through a small needle to identified areas on the face that are marked with ink prior to injection. To help control discomfort, a numbing anesthetic may be applied and cold compresses are used to help control bruising and swelling. The amount of medicine injected varies by patient as some individuals will have deeper, broader wrinkles, while others will only have fine lines to address.
AFTER TREATMENT
After treatment, there will be some mild redness and swelling, but this goes away within a couple of hours. Another difference between BOTOX and Dysport is that the results from a Dysport injection will become visible within only a couple of days. In addition, it generally lasts just a bit longer and diffuses further from the injection site.
EXPECTED COST
The expected cost of Dysport is typically around $4 – $8 per unit, which is significantly less than the $11 to $18 that BOTOX can cost per unit. This reduces the cost in the short term; however, since more Dysport is needed compared to BOTOX, the cost can be comparable in the long run.
